Roger Waters is the English born singer, songwriter, composer and bassist that is most well known as a founding member of the rock band Pink Floyd. He and Syd Barrett formed the band in 1968, but became the principal lyricist and songwriter when Syd Barrett had a mental breakdown early on. With Pink Floyd, Roger Waters was instrumental in the creation of concept albums like The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall. Waters and the other members of Pink Floyd left a long and legendary legacy in rock music. Their albums are some of the biggest selling in all of music history, but it was not enough to keep the band together forever it would seem. Even so, Pink Floyd is probably the most important rock band in history. Their influence is seen in rock, hip-hop, electronica and other genres of music. The band split ways in 1985 over legal battles for the group's name and musical material. Since Waters has continued to produce conceptual albums including The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking, Radio K.A.O.S. and Amused to Death. He also has toured independently and been able to reproduce some of the old Pink Floyd stage shows on his solo concert tour dates, his touring has become a cult type festival for many die hard fans.
